. . . There
are times during some of our most difficult personal conflicts
and tragedies when life seems to lose its meaning. We lose our
way when we most need to hear the few transformational words
inspiring us to go on. ...Eventually, however, somewhere along
the journey a single, consoling factor becomes apparent - that
our experience is not unique. We have not been singled out. There
are others who have traveled this very pathway and received insight
to help overcome and grow beyond the current circumstances. ...To
find the answers, we need only to seek and reflect on another's
experience, to wait in quiet expectation and listen for the reply.
It is my sincere
hope that these selections may prove beneficial, furnishing some
light and insight on the paradox we experience as life.
- Anita Bergen - Preface, "Pause
and Reflect"
I am convinced
that many times, in the course of our lives, God challenges us
with a golden opportunity, a seemingly impossible hurdle, or
a terrible tragedy . . . and how we react - or fail to react
- determines the course of our future, almost as if we were involved
in some sort of heavenly chess game. . . with our destiny always
in the balance.
- Og Mandino - A Better Way to Live
Problems cannot
be solved at the same level of awareness that created them.
- Albert Einstein
Whenever I
feel the world closing in on me, I go to a quiet place that lies
somewhere in my soul. I do not reason, analyze or think. Those
will come later. I simply go. And as a frightened child finds
comfort and strength in a loving parent, I find my God there.
From this place of power, I gather strength to stand firm in
the face of fire, to be calm in the midst of thunder. When I
emerge from this sanctuary, the world has not changed, but I
have. And in my changing, a whole new world is born.
- John Harricharan
Everything
that happens to you is your teacher. The secret is to learn to
sit at the feet of your own life and be taught by it. Everything
that happens is either a blessing which is also a lesson, or
a lesson which is also a blessing.
- Polly Berrien Berends
Just when we
think nothing is working there is a glimmer of light. If we could
believe in our hearts that what looks impossible can work out,
we could bear more easily with hardships. Living is like the
weather. It has its surprises, its storms, its dry spells. But
if we can hold on, it all changes. The changes come the way we
change our minds - unexpectedly and sometimes for no apparent
reason. But the reason, the uyelvdvi, real purpose is there.
Every word we speak, everything we believe, builds our consciousness
and makes us who we are. If we expect nothing good, it will oblige
us. We are as unlimited as we say we are, and it is in our power
to make the difference.
- Joyce Sequichie Hifler -
A Cherokee Feast of Days
People are
like stained-glass windows. They sparkle and shine when the sun
is out, but when the darkness sets in, their true beauty is revealed
only if there is a light from within.
- Elisabeth Kübler-Ross
The truth is
that life is hard and dangerous; that he who seeks his own happiness
does not find it; that he who is weak must suffer; that he who
demands love, will be disappointed; that he who is greedy, will
not be fed; that he who seeks peace, will find strife; that truth
is only for the brave; that joy is only for him who does not
fear to be alone; that life is only for the one who is not afraid
to die.
- Joyce Carey
